The Challenge

More than 26 million children in Pakistan are out of school.

An estimated more than 26 million children aged 5–16 in Pakistan are out of school, representing 44% of the total population in this age group. These children—many of whom face poverty, limited access to education, and scarce opportunities—are at risk of falling behind before they have a chance to learn, grow, and thrive.

Pakistan Children Relief exists to change that trajectory — reaching the children the system leaves behind and giving them a real path from the street to the classroom.

Our story

From three cities to a nationwide movement

2012

Registered, then first projects on the ground

Pakistan Children Relief (PCR) was registered in 2012 as a 501(c)(3) organization in the United States with a core focus on expanding education opportunities for orphans and street children in Pakistan. However, PCR started its first projects in December 2020 in three cities of Pakistan—Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Lakki Marwat—partnering with local organizations to create learning opportunities for children who were being left behind.

2020

Became an independent organization

Over the next eight years, PCR worked hard to build a foundation for sustainable change in Pakistan's education landscape. In 2020, the organization took a major step forward by transitioning into an independent organization operating directly within Pakistan. This milestone allowed PCR to establish its main office in Islamabad, the capital, and set up local offices in key cities such as Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Laki Marwat.

2024

A nationwide footprint

With a dedicated team of social workers and an unwavering commitment to its mission, PCR expanded its reach rapidly. By 2024, the organization was running programs in multiple cities across Pakistan, including:

This wide footprint has helped PCR reach marginalized communities and deliver education while fighting the ongoing challenge of illiteracy.

Throughout its journey, PCR has remained committed to uplifting underprivileged children and reducing illiteracy in Pakistan. By building strong community relationships, forming meaningful partnerships, and embracing innovative solutions, the organization has made steady progress toward its goals and helped many children access education and support.
